PlayStation 4 Snags Another Record Breaking Year in New Zealand

As Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand looks towards 2016, with the promise of ground-breaking innovation, great games and all round home entertainment services, the company releases 2015 results demonstrating record-breaking momentum.

NPD Group data shows that PlayStation platform value share of the total market  grew to 57%, which equates to a 10% increase on the company’s own performance for the previous calendar year. PlayStation 4 accounted for well over half the total console hardware value in 2015 with 59%. In fact, the PS4 overall platform accounted for 65% of the total current generation market value , which includes Nintendo Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One home consoles, games and peripherals.


Record-breaking results were delivered over the 2015 festive period in New Zealand. The Xmas week, was the highest performing of the year, with December 2015 proving to be the highest performing month in New Zealand PlayStation history. Festive season success was also replicated globally by the recently announced results of 35.9 million units sold through – 5.9 million, of which sold during the 2015 festive season.

PS4 software success

According to the latest NPD Group results, PlayStation 4 software is outselling its closest competitor by double in both value (110%) and units (106%). PS4 software value and units grew by a booming 78% and 71% respectively compared to the previous year.

Taking players on new adventures with every new software release, 2015’s current generation software line up was the strongest to date. Top 1st party performers were; Bloodborne, The Order: 1886 and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. These titles, along with the inclusion of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront from 3rd party publishers made it a record-breaking year for software.

2016 promises to be another ground-breaking year, with highly anticipated exclusives such as Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Hello Games’ procedurally generated space exploration game, No Man’s Sky and Guerilla Games’ newest action RPG, Horizon Zero Dawn.
