PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (“PUBG”) is a survival video game, which has taken the gaming world by storm, selling over 20 million copies on Steam while still in development and released in early access. The game, developed by Bluehole Studio Inc and PUBG Corporation, is easily 2017’s biggest video game.
Last week, the game finally released on the Xbox One console in the Game Preview programme, and sold 1 million copies within 48 hours of release. While an incredible feat, the game does come with a fair bit of issues, which was evident even on the more advanced Xbox One X console.
I personally experienced some of these issues when attempting to play the game on my Xbox One X console. The graphics were on the disappointing side, with a serious lag problem. There were several points in the game where I would press a button on the controller and nothing would happen, or the action would occur several seconds later. In a survival game of this kind, even a minute delay could mean the difference between winning the sought after first place (a.k.a getting a chicken dinner) and death.
Understandably, the game is unfinished and the only servers available at the time were North America, Europe and Asia, which could be the reason for the lag in the game. PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, has said that there will be continual updates on the game to allow for better gameplay experiences.
The most recent update is the addition of Oceania servers, which hopefully means a significant improvement in the online gameplay experience. I for one am excited as the Oceania servers on Fortnite: Battle Royale makes for an amazingly fun gaming experience with little to no lag. Being able to bypass delays on PUBG will make getting that chicken dinner all the more attainable.
It’ll be interesting to see what else is in store in terms of updates for PUBG on Xbox One.
