Team Immunity places third in the Asia-Pacific Predator League PUBG Grand Final, taking home $15,000 USD.
Acer’s annual Asia-Pacific Predator League Grand Final tournament was held over the weekend in Bangkok, Thailand. The event attracted 10,000 fans to Bangkok’s National Stadium and over four million viewers who watched virtually across the globe. 16 top PUBG teams and the 10 leading Dota 2 teams from across APAC descended on the capital to fight for part of a $250,000 USD prize pool.
After three days and 15 rounds, South Korean side Afreeca Freecs Fatal took the top spot for the PUBG competition and won $75,000 USD and Predator Helios 300 notebooks. Home team Purple Mood E-Sports took second and Australia’s Team Immunity took third. In the Dota 2 tournament, the Philippines’ TNC Predator side took the win and the top prize of $75,000 USD, followed by Boom ID from Indonesia, and Malaysia’s GeekFam in third place.
The Australian and New Zealand representative, Team Immunity, fought through the Bangkok heat to earn their place on the podium. The team dominated Round 12 with 20 kill points – scoring the highest number of kills in any round of the Grand Finals – and walked away with $15,000 USD. On an individual level, Team Immunity’s Nick101 ranked second in the PUBG competition overall for kills, clocking up 29. His weapon of choice, the Mini 14, proved the deadliest, as this was also the choice of top-ranking player Style, from South Korea.
Andrew Hou, President of Pan Asia Pacific Regional Operations, Acer Inc. announced at the end of the tournament that the Predator League 2020 grand finals will be hosted in the Philippines – home country of the Dota 2 champions TNC Predator.
“Acer hopes to provide a stage for young talent, not only by building world-class hardware but also through developing the gaming ecosystem and industry,” said Andrew Hou. “We hope that the athletes from Predator League 2019 can continue with their great work as members of the esports community, and also return in 2020 to compete in the Philippines.”
“We will continue our efforts locally and look forward to seeing who will be representing Australia and New Zealand in 2020,” said Darren Simmons, Oceanic Managing Director of Acer. “We have big things happening with the Predator brand both this year and next year, and look forward to sharing it with the esports community.”
