D23 2019 Day 1 Recap: Everything Marvel

Marvel Studios delved further into its plans for Disney+ at their D23 panel. Here’s a recap of what Marvel had to share at the expo.

What If? Animated Series

Marvel revealed a first look at what’s to come in the upcoming Disney+ animated series, What If?

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, announced that each episode will focus on a specific MCU film but with one story element changed. The episode will then explore how that one change causes rippling effects and fundamentally alters the MCU as we know.

Many of the original MCU actors will return to voice their respective characters.

Several concepts for each episode were teased, such as Marvel Zombies, Peggy Carter being injected with the super soldier serum to become Captain Britain and more.

Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk & Moon Knight

Alongside the previously announced Marvel Studios TV series coming to Disney+, Kevin Feige revealed three new shows coming to the streaming service. These include Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Knight. These new shows allow Marvel to introduce never before seen on screen characters into the MCU.

Ms. Marvel follows teenager, Kamala Khan, who was Marvel’s first Muslim character to lead her own series. A Pakistani-American from New Jersey, Khan took up the mantle after Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel, became Captain Marvel. Khan’s powers include changing her form.

She-Hulk follows Bruce Banner’s cousin, Jennifer Walters, who receives a blood transfusion from Banner, which ultimately transforms her into her own unique version of the Hulk.

Moon Knight, on the other hand, follows the character, Marc Specter, a mercenary left for dead in the Egyptian desert who is given special powers by a spiritual force.

Thor’s Kat Dennings & Ant-Man’s Randall Park To Return In WandaVision

Kat Dennings’ Darcy Lewis and Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo will both be returning to the MCU in the Disney+ series, WandaVision.

Darcy was an intern working for Jane Foster in the Thor films while Randall was Scott Lang’s FBI babysitter in the Ant-Man films.

Kit Harrington Joins The MCU

Marvel Studios also revealed that Kit Harrington is set to join the MCU. The actor joins his Game of Thrones co-star, Richard Madden (The Eternals), in the cinematic universe. However, there has been no indication of what property or character the actor will be attached to.
