Disney Is Embracing A Whole New World With Its Own Streaming Service

Disney has revealed that it will be pulling its movies (yes, that means Marvel & Lucasfilms too) from Netflix to venture towards launching its own streaming service.

According to CNBC, the company has announced plans to launch a direct-to-consumer streaming service in 2019. Disney will also be launching its own ESPN video streaming service in the early part of next year.

“This represents a big strategic shift for the company,” CEO Bob Iger said. “We felt that having control of a platform we’ve been very impressed with after buying 33 percent of it a year ago would give us control of our destiny.”

With Disney planning to pull its movies from the world’s largest streaming service, this will likely mean that consumers will have to fork out more money for subscriptions to multiple services, in order to access a variety of films and TV shows, rather than one consolidated streaming service.
