Disney’s The Little Mermaid Finds Its Ariel

The live-action adaptation of Disney’s The Little Mermaid has just found its Ariel in Halle Bailey.

Walt Disney Studios appears to be pushing forward with the casting for their next live-action adaptation, and at pace. 19 year old musician, Halle Bailey, one half of the hip hop duo, Chloe X Halle, will be playing the lead role of Ariel in the upcoming film.

The casting announcement comes just days after reports came to light that Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians), Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Melissa McCarthy (Life of the Party) are in talks to star as Scuttle, Flounder and Ursula, respectively.

With the current slate of live-action adaptations bringing a sense of nostalgia to those who grew up with the classic animated films, while allowing a new generation to enjoy the classic Disney tales, it doesn’t look like Disney will be slowing down anytime soon.

At present, we have the live-action adaptation of The Lion King to look forward to in the coming weeks, as well as, Mulan, which is currently still in production.
