Ewan McGregor May Return As Obi-Wan Kenobi in Disney+ Series

Star Wars fans rejoice! Obi-Wan Kenobi may be returning to our screens!

According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor, who played Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel films, as well as lending his voice to the character’s voice-over in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is currently in talks to reprise his role as the Jedi Master in an upcoming Disney+ series.

For years rumours had been swirling that a standalone feature film, focused on Kenobi, was in the works. However, much like the Boba Fett film rumours, which led to the creation of The Mandalorian series, it appears that Disney’s current vision for the character is for a big budget series on its Disney+ streaming service.

Details on the series is currently under wraps and not much has been revealed by way of confirmation from Disney or reps for McGregor.

However, given that McGregor’s return as the Jedi Master has been in development since Disney acquired the Star Wars property in 2012, there’s a strong likelihood for the series to be confirmed soon.

Should the series be confirmed, it will be the third live-action Star Wars series to release on Disney+. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian premiere’s this November and a series focused on Deigo Luna’s Cassian Andor, has been confirmed to currently be in development.

More details about the series, its plot and characters could potentially be revealed at Disney’s upcoming D23 expo which takes place later this month.
