Injustice 2: Raiden Release Fraught with Issues

NetherRealm Studios, DC Comics and Warner Brothers’ fighting game title Injustice 2 has had issues in the past with DLC characters, but this month’s release of Mortal Kombat‘s lightning God, Raiden, has been a bit of a nightmare for the company and the players.

Originally, Raiden was due to release in October, but due to miscommunication errors, the character was released three weeks earlier on Xbox One by mistake. A few hours later, it was pulled from the Xbox One store, but not before videos were released on YouTube, taking the wind out of the sails of the anticipated release on October 10th.

To add to all of this, the update on September 25th had major issues too. Update 1.09 added Raiden’s data to the game, and updated the ‘Legendary Multiverse’ requirements. A day later, update 1.10 was added to patch the game. This update was supposed to “cure” the issues regarding the Raiden release, but instead, it deleted all items gained within the game on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Restarting the PS4 and using various ‘tricks’ within the game itself seemed to work for the most part, but any gear that was gained after the 25th was lost, to the outrage of several players and fans of the game. Players also reported the loss of the in-game purchasable currency—source crystals.

During a ‘Watchtower’ Twitch stream on September 29th, Tyler Lansdown and the team from NetherRealms Studios stated that Raiden, along with a ‘Black Lightning’ premier skin would be released on October 3rd. A whole week earlier than anticipated. However, the release, again, has been fraught with issues, and releases have been patchy.

At the time of writing, NetherRealms Studios is still investigating the lost gear/source crystals issue. More on this soon.
