Joss Whedon To Direct Standalone Batgirl Film For Warner Bros.

Joss Whedon is making the jump from Marvel to DC Comics with the announcement this morning that The Avengers director, who also created popular TV shows such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly, will be helming a standalone Batgirl film.

Whedon is currently in negotiations to write, direct and produce the Batgirl title for Warner Bros. Pictures as part of the DC Extended Universe.

The standalone Batgirl film will be the second Warner Bros. Pictures title to see a DC Comics heroine have her own solo film, the first being the soon to be released Wonder Woman film starring Gal Gadot in the lead.

Batgirl made her first appearance in DC Comics in 1967 as Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner, James ‘Jim’ Gordon in The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl! by writer Gardner Fox and artist Carmine Infantino.

At least we can be certain that, with Whedon at the helm, this DC Extended Universe film will be worth the watch.
