Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager, Shannon Loftis, has confirmed that the company’s first-party gaming titles made for the Xbox One ‘Project Scorpio’ will run in native 4K.
“Any games we’re making that we’re launching in the Scorpio time frame, we’re making sure they can natively render at 4K,” she said in an interview with USA Today.
This news is timely with the announcement of Sony’s newest gaming console, the PlayStation 4 Pro, a next-gen console, which is said to support 4K gaming (though some have labelled this description as misleading due to the fact that the console merely upscales the majority of games to 4K instead of providing it natively).
With Sony’s PS4 Pro slotted for a November 2016 release, it’ll be interesting to see what Microsoft has in store for ‘Project Scorpio’, which currently appears to have the upper hand with the estimated release being around the holiday period of 2017.
