Nintendo Announces Nintendo Labo, A New Interactive Feature For The Switch

Nintendo has today announced Nintendo Labo, a new DIY interactive feature for the Nintendo Switch that will allow players to build cardboard add-ons to create items like robots, fishing rods, and much more.

The Nintendo Labo involves sheets of cardboard cutouts that when assembled together can take the form of various Switch accessories. These accessories are known as ‘Toy-Cons’, which is a reference to the console’s Joy-Con controllers. The new feature works in conjunction with an app that instructs players on the Toy-Con assembly and includes games specifically designed for the Toy-Cons. This accompanying app is divided into three appropriately named sections: Build, Play, and Discover.

From this, it looks like Nintendo hopes to widen the Switch’s appeal to a new variety of audiences, such as do-it-yourself hobbyists and those interested in arts and crafts. A pretty good move for longevity of the Switch and it’s appeal to non-gamers.

The Australian/New Zealand release date has also been revealed for Nintendo Labo. According to the Australian Nintendo site, it looks like we’ll be getting the Toy-Con Robot King, Toy-Con Variety Kit and Toy-Con Customisation kit on 20 April. Details on pricing have yet to be revealed.
