Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have been announced!
The two new Generation 8 titles, set to launch in late 2019 on the Nintendo Switch console, were introduced in this morning’s live-stream, which revealed a brand new region to explore as well as the three new starter Pokémon.
According to the official website, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar:
“an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.”
Like previous games, players will begin their adventure by selecting from one of the three starter Pokémon and proceed to visit various Gyms in the region.
The three starter Pokémon are:
Grookey
A mischievous, grass type, Chimp Pokémon that is full of boundless curiosity
Scorbunny
A fire type, Rabbit Pokémon that is always running about, bursting with energy
Sobble
A somewhat timid, water type, Water Lizard Pokémon that shoots out attacks as it hides itself in the water.
