Rumour: Disney-Fox Deal Are Back On

Remember a couple of weeks ago when the rumour mill went into overdrive when talks of Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox began? According to various sources, the talks are rumoured to be back on and moving quickly.

Deadline‘s Mike Fleming said that Disney is “progressing speedily” towards an acquisition of Fox.  If this is in fact true, the acquisition will mean that Disney will own the film rights to a number of popular franchises, including the X-Men and Fantastic Four, two properties who have suffered under Fox’s control.

With Disney owning the rights to these properties, it would mean that Marvel Studios will be able to reinvent the X-Men and Fantastic Four, though it is unknown whether Fox’s more popular characters such as Deadpool, will remain successful. I wonder whether Marvel Studios will be able to carry on the R-rating that’s been doing so well for them.

Fleming explained that:

“I just want to start with a juicy rumor that is fast gaining steam in town today, that Disney is progressing speedily toward that rumored acquisition of Fox. The version I heard has the Murdoch clan keeping possession of sports and news properties, and the rest of TV and the film studio going to Disney.”

According to Fleming, the deal will be made under a cone of silence, with confirmation only being issued after negotiations have been completed. Therefore, nothing is set in stone at this stage and is very much just a rumour.

As a hardcore X-Men fan, I’m so ready for Disney to take the reigns and will keep you posted as the story develops.
