The feature length follow up to David Sandberg’s cult 2015 short film, Kung Fury, has this week cast a number of heavy-hitters, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Fassbender.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schwarzenegger will play the American President in the action-comedy alongside Fassbender, who is set to play a leading role. Sandberg, the creator of the short, who played the lead, will reprise his role as the titular hero in the feature film, which is set to begin production in Winter this year.
The original Kung Fury short was an over-the top parody to 80s martial arts and cop-films, which followed the titular hero as he fought to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Hitler.
The sequel, will be set in 1985 Miami, which is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury and his Thundercops, the ultimate police force. After the death of one of their own, the group disbands and a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Kung Fu Academy and defeat Kung Fuhrer once and for all.
