Last night, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the 89th Academy Awards (a.k.a the Oscars”), which honoured the best films of 2016.
With a host of brilliant nominees across a wide array of categories, the award show pit the creme de la creme of film and film-making against each other, but that is not all that this year’s Oscars will be remembered for. The Oscars 2017 will forever be remembered for the Best Picture announcement gaffe that saw La La Land mistakenly win instead of the actual Best Picture winner, Moonlight. The way in which the cast and crew of La La Land handled the mistake showed incredible sportsmanship and illustrated just how supportive the industry are of one another.
