Last week, Destiny 2 fans were given the unfortunate news that Shadowkeep, the next expansion for the game, has been pushed back from its September release date to the 1st of October.
In a blog post on Bungie.net, the developers outlined the reasons for the delay:
“As we get closer and closer to serving up Shadowkeep and New Light, it has become increasingly clear to us that our releases for this Fall would benefit from a bit more time in the oven. Being independent means that the future of Destiny 2 is entirely on our team. It also means that we’re agile enough to choose to do what’s best for the game and our players, even if it’s the hard choice.”
To make up for the delay “Moments of Triumph” will be extended through to September 17, with an additional “Iron Banner” the week of the 17th as well. Bungie also announced the long-awaited cross-save feature will be available later this Summer/Winter.
Game director, Luke Smith, took to Twitter to announce a “State of the Game” blog post for this week, which would outline the changes being made to Destiny 2 and why.
Destiny 2: New Light is the free to play version of the game and will now launch on October 1st alongside Shadowkeep.
Shadowkeep was first announced in June of this year and is the first expansion since Bungie split from publisher, Activision, and retained the rights to the Destiny franchise in January this year.
Both the expansion and free to play version of Destiny 2 will be available on Xbox, PS4, PC and Stadia.
