San Diego Comic Con was jam packed full of DC Comics announcements, particularly surrounding The CW’s Arrowverse. Here’s everything that was announced at the Arrowverse panels.
Arrow – Final Season
At The CW’s Arrowverse panel, the first trailer for Arrow‘s final season was revealed.
The trailer acts as an emotional recollection of all those whom Oliver Queen has loved and lost over the years, before showcasing the familiar faces he will encounter while fulfilling his commitment to the Monitor (in the Elseworlds crossover).
Arrow Season 8 will premiere on 15 October 2019.
Brandon Routh To Play Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover
Hot off yesterday’s announcement that Brandon Routh was to reprise his role as Superman alongside Tyler Hoechlin in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, the actor today revealed that he will play the Kingdom Come Superman.
The actor, who first wore the suit and cape for Superman Returns, has been playing Ray Palmer (The Atom) in Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
Given the title of the Arrowverse cross-over and the existence of the multiverse, Routh’s casting as another Superman should come as no surprise, though it will be interesting to see how Routh’s Superman fairs alongside Hoechlin’s.
The Flash Season 6
DC Comics’ fastest man alive will return for another adventure. The trailer for The Flash season 6 was revealed at SDCC, which reveals what Team Flash gets up to in the wake of defeating two different versions of Cicada and losing Nora.
Following The Flash panel, The CW revealed that Heroes alum, Sendhil Ramamurthy has been cast in the recurring role of Dr. Ramsey Rosso, a character who transforms into the season’s big bad, Bloodwork.
Tom Cavanaugh, who played multiple iterations of Harrison Wells throughout the first five seasons, has also been confirmed to return as yet another version of Wells, as well as, the character Pariah in the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. In the comics, Pariah is responsible for releasing the Anti-Monitor to the world.
Season 6 of The Flash will release on October 8th.
Supergirl Season 5
At the Supergirl panel at SDCC, The CW revealed the first look at Supergirl’s new suit, new cast announcements and the first trailer for season 5.
According to reports, Supergirl will have an important part to play in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, so naturally, the new suit has been designed with that in mind.
Veronica Mars’ Julie Gonzalo and Game of Thrones alum, Staz Nair, will star in season 5. Gonzalo will play Andrea Rojas aka. Acrata, a DC comics character who is described as a “polished businesswoman and heir to a Central American tech empire” who’s unapologetic about who she is, but has “a mystical secret”.
Nair, on the other hand, will play William Dey, a cynic with ties to the criminal underworld, who looks down on Kara’s earnest idealism.
Season 5 of Supergirl will premiere on October 6th.
Batwoman
At Batwoman‘s inaugural panel at SDCC, The CW announced that Burt Ward, who played Robin in the 1960s Batman TV series, will appear in the Crisis on Infinite Earths five-part crossover event. Furthermore, season 1 of Batwoman will see the introduction of Tommy Elliot, who’s best known as the alter ego of the villain, Hush. The series is said to touch on Elliot’s backstory.
Batwoman showrunner, Caroline Dries, stated that the series will not feature villains from the Arrowverse, but will instead tackle those from the library of villains from the Batman and Batwoman comics.
Batwoman premieres October 6th.
