Capcom, the publisher behind one of the biggest fighting game franchises in video game history, is re-releasing Street Fighter 2 as a Super Nintendo (“SNES”) cartridge, as part of a celebration of the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
This brand-new, re-released collector’s edition the fighting game is being co-produced with iam8bit for a limited run of only 5,500 copies. Pre-orders are now available, with orders estimated to ship in November.
The collector’s edition costs $100USD, and will include a working and playable Street Fighter II SNES cartridge that will come in one of two colour varieties, “Opaque Ryu Red” or “Translucent Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green.” The run will be randomly distributed, with 1,000 of the limited 5,500 copies being the glow-in-the-dark variant.
The package will also include a foil-stamped box, ‘premium’ instruction manual based on the original, and other retro-gaming goodness.
According to iam8bit’s site, the Street Fighter II re-release is but one of several “Legacy Cartridge Collections” being released. Retro-gaming fans, rejoice!
