D23 2019 Day 1 Recap: Everything Disney

Disney’s annual fan expo, D23, has kicked off for another year. Below is a recap of everything that the studio giant has announced on Day 1.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

Yep, that is indeed the name of the new High School Musical TV series coming to Disney +. The series is about a group of high school students who are playing on a musical. However, unlike the original film, the musical the students are playing is High School Musical. Confused? Let the trailer clarify things for you.

Live-Action Lady and the Tramp

Disney revealed the first official trailer for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Lady And The Tramp. The film will be a Disney + exclusive and will not premiere in cinemas.

The voice cast includes Tessa Thompson as the cocker spaniel, Lady, and Justin Theroux as loveable mutt, Tramp. Ashley Jensen, Benedict Wong, Janelle Monáe and Sam Elliott voice the other dogs in the film. The human cast joining the voice actors include, Kiersey Clemons as Darling, Lady’s owner, and Thomas Mann, as her husband, Jim.

Unlike the live-action adaptation of The Lion King, which was rendered entirely in CG, Lady and the Tramp uses real life doggos!

Hillary Duff Reprising Her Role As Lizzie McGuire

Hey 2019, the 90s are calling! Disney has announced that Lizzie McGuire, the lovable 90s sitcom from the 90s will return to Disney+ with Hillary Duff reprising her role. The original series creator, Terri Minsky, will serve as showrunner.

The new Lizzie McGuire will follow an adult Lizzie as she navigates life in New York City. Her animated teenage inner voice, however, will still continue to babble in her head.

Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe

Phineas and Ferb are back with a brand new film, exclusive to Disney+

Muppets Now

Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and gang are returning to our screens with more mischief and laughs in an all new  series on Disney+ called Muppets Now.

From Disney+’s announcement: “Forty years after leaving the swamp in his big screen debut in The Muppet Movie, Kermit the Frog is heading upstream with Miss Piggy, and the gang, bringing a new kind of mayhem and laughter to Disney+ with their first-ever unscripted short-form series, Muppets Now.

Pixar

Forky Asks a Question

Toy Story 4′s beloved Forky will return in a series of Pixar shorts on Disney+. Characters from the Toy Story universe will make an appearance.

Monsters At Work

First we had Monsters Inc, then we had Monsters University. Now, we’ll be getting Monsters At Work. The new animated series will take place after the original film and follows a new employee, Tylor Tuskmon (voiced by Ben Feldman), fresh out of school who was hired to be a scarer on the scare floor. On his first day, however, the company switches to laughter. Aisha Tyler will be playing Tuskman’s mom, Millie.
