Doctor Who’s Matt Smith Joins Star Wars: Episode IX

From The Crown and the Tardis to the Galaxy Far Far Away

The highly anticipated sequel to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: Episode IX began production this month and Variety has today reported that Matt Smith has joined the growing cast.

Smith, most notable for playing the bow-tie loving Eleventh Doctor in the BBC sci-fi series, Doctor Who, and Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown, has been cast in a ‘key role’ in the upcoming Star Wars film but no further details have been provided.

The casting comes hot off the heels of Kiwi actor, Dominic Monaghan, from The Lord of the Rings and Lost fame, and The Americans‘ Keri Russell, being cast as well.

Smith, Monaghan and Russell will be joining returning Star Wars icons Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams, as well as current favourites, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and John Boyega. The dearly departed Carrie Fisher is also said to make an appearance through unused footage from previous films.
