Bad news, Game of Thrones fans. HBO has just announced that the eighth and final season of the popular fantasy series will officially return in 2019.
While HBO has not confirmed an official premiere date, we can expect the season to be relatively short, being only six episodes long. Last year’s seventh season was a mere seven episodes long, with season six before that, being ten episodes in length.
HBO programming president, Casey Bloys said in June last year that it was likely the show wouldn’t return in 2018.
“They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule,” Bloys said. “We’ll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing.”
Looks like fans will have to wait just a little longer for the final season of Game of Thrones.
