Sometimes the film and television gods are kind and bless us with castings that are so perfect that you just want to jump out of your seat with a resounding “yes!!”. Today’s news is just one of those casting announcements.
Today, the official announcement was made that Henry Cavill, who’s most notable for playing Superman and for his notorious Mission Impossible: Fallout moustache, has been cast to play The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s live-action adaptation.
Further details have not yet been provided apart Netflix’s description of Geralt in the eight-episode long live action series:
“Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
The character of Geralt originally appeared in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books and has been featured in a number of comics as well, though is most well known for appearing in CD Projeckt Red’s video game adaptation series, The Witcher.
The Netflix series will be Cavill’s first time back to TV since The Tudors, a series that I not only enjoyed for the story but also for the eye-candy that was Cavill’s character, Charles Brandon.
This casting came mere months after Cavill himself teased that he would love to play The Witcher’s most well known monster hunter. Below is a BossLogic’s convincing poster of Cavill as Geralt.
