Saving the best for last, SDCC 2019 Day 3 was jam packed full of the biggest news in pop culture.
Not only did DC Comics hold its DC Universe and Arrowverse panels, but so too did Marvel Studios. Below are highlights of Day 3.
Marvel Studios Announces Phase 4 Plans
Marvel Studios’ President, Kevin Feige, took to the stage at the studios’ Hall H presentation to announce the end of the Infinity Saga and the dawn of Phase 4. The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be spread across 2020 and 2021 and include ten projects.
Of the ten projects, five will be feature films. The rest are original TV series that will release on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+.
Marvel Films
The five MCU films set to release in 2020 and 2021 include:
- The Eternals
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
- Black Widow
- Thor: Love and Thunder
Marvel TV Series
The five original TV shows coming to Disney+ include:
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
- WandaVision
- Loki
- What If…?
- Hawkeye
The studio also announced that Mahershala Ali has been cast as the iconic vampire hunter Blade! Blade will not be part of Phase 4 and is a project set for Phase 5 of the MCU.

The CW’s Arrowverse Reveals Crisis on Infinite Earths
Following tradition, The CW panels featured trailer reveals of the upcoming season of each show within the Arrowverse, introduced Batwoman and the next crossover event, as well as bid farewell to Arrow, whose final season will debut in October.
The Arrow panel was bittersweet, with the cast detailing what’s to come while showcasing the trailer for season 8. It is here that Brandon Routh revealed that he would play Kingdom Come Superman in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.
The Flash panel showcased a sneak peek at season 6 and announced Sendhil Ramamurthy as the season’s villain, Bloodwork.
As for Supergirl, season 5 is set to be a gamechanger with Lex Luthor returning as a key villain. The trailer not only revealed Supergirl’s new and improved suit but also hinted at the aftermath of Kara Danvers’ secret being revealed to Lena Luthor.
As for Batwoman, the panel showcased the pilot episode to fans and revealed that the Batman villain, Hush, may play a key part in the series.

DC Comics’ Streaming Service Gets New Shows
With the success of the DC Universe shows, Titans and Doom Patrol, DC Comics announced that both series have been renewed for a second season. Titans season 2 is set to include a whole host of new characters from the Titans universe, including Batman himself.
DC Comics also unveiled the first trailer for the r-rated animated Harley Quinn series, starring Kaley Cuoco. The trailer showcases Harley going off on her own to join a ragtag group of DC Comics criminals.
Finally, the fan favourite animated series, Young Justice, which was once cancelled, will be returning for a fourth season on the streaming service, following on from Young Justice: Outsiders.

Star Trek Lower Decks Cast & Characters Announced
The voice cast and characters for the animated comedy series, Star Trek: Lower Decks have been revealed, along with new details about the show’s ship. The series follows the behind the scenes starship workers who endure the mundane jobs that allow others to perform the heroic deeds.
The series is being developed by Mike McMahan, a former writer for Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty.
The cast comprises of Tawny Newsome as Ensign Mariner, Jack Quaid as Ensign Boimler, Noël Wells as Ensign Tendi and Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherford. The bridge crew includes Jerry O’Connell as Commander Ransom, Dawnn Lewis as Captain Freeman, Fred Tatasciore as Lieutenant Shaxs and Gillian Vigman as Dr. T’Ana. Veronica Mars Season 4 Released A Week Early
Fans of Veronica Mars were treated to a surprise release of season 4, a week earlier than originally planned. The series is available on Hulu now.
Blumhouse Annouces Two Halloween Sequels
Over comic-con weekend, Blumhouse announced two sequels to 2018’s Halloween. Titled Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, the two films will be filmed back to back for a 2020 and 2021 release and will see the return of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode.
With that, another year of San Diego Comic Con comes to a close. With some exciting pop culture goodness awaiting us in 2020 and 2021, the next few years are going to be rather epic. Till next year.
