Square Enix and Ubisoft Unite To Bring Final Fantasy XV/Assassin’s Creed Crossover

Square Enix and Ubisoft have announced, at Gamescom 2017, a rather unusual and unique partnership, which will see the worlds of Final Fantasy XV and Assassin’s Creed collide.

The publishers revealed that the collaboration will kick off in the form of a DLC, which will release at the end of the month. First, on 30 August, Final Fantasy XV players who have obtained the Dream Egg from the Moogle Chocobo Carnival event will be gifted a familiar Assassin outfit for Noctis. Following that, on 31 August, the free Assassin’s Festival DLC will be made available for Final Fantasy XV .

This new content will transform the town of Lestalium, providing players with new activities to participate in along with special themed items, and features. Among such new content will be another Assassin’s Creed outfit and the chance for Noctis to explore the city more in the style of an assassin from Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise. He will also be able to utilise some of the abilities of an assassin as well.

At present, there is no word on whether there will be Final Fantasy content available on Ubisoft’s upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Origins.

According to the news in the Ubisoft blog, the collaboration is a result of an informal meeting which took place three years ago between the Assassin’s Creed and Final Fantasy development teams.  The blog post highlights that references to the collaboration and Easter eggs have been seeded by both development teams, well in advance, into trailers for their respective games, including the Final Fantasy XV Omen trailer, this year’s Assassin’s Creed Origins announcement trailer, and the Origins Gamescom trailer.

“This collaboration is the result of being huge fans,” says Ashraf Ismail, game director at Ubisoft Montreal, “There’s a lot of respect between the two teams and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to pay homage to each other’s work.”

Assassin’s Creed Origins is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 27. It will also be available at the launch of Xbox One X on November 7
