Ever since Lucasfilm and Disney announced plans to produce stand-alone Star Wars films, fans have been clamouring for an Obi-Wan Kenobi (a.k.a Ben) film. Today, those requests have been answered with the confirmation from The Hollywood Reporter that a stand-alone Obi-Wan film is, indeed, in the works, with Billy Elliot and The Hours director Stephen Daldry reportedly in talks to direct!
Plans for the film are still in the early stages, with no script in place yet. It’s rumoured that, if he signs on, Daldry will both develop and write the film.
Lucasfilm has long been teasing a film featuring good ol’ Ben, and Star Wars prequels star, Ewan McGregor, has mentioned several times in the past about his commitment to reprising his role as the Jedi master. However, there has been no confirmation thus far of McGregor returning.
