A Pop Culture Adventure in Japan

Hi all,

I’m sure those of you who check out the blog regularly would have noticed that I’ve not been as active of late. That’s because I’m on a trip to hunt for authentic anime and manga otaku culture, and retro video games in the electronic hub of the world, Japan.

So far the trip has been great. Everywhere I go, video games, anime collectibles and manga galore are in my face, tempting me to buy them.

One store which really stood out is he Super Potato retro video game store in Nipponbashi, Osaka. That place is a gamers heaven with old consoles ranging from the Sega Mega Drive to the Super Nintendo (SNES). It also had old games ranging from 80s – 90s popular games like Street Fighter 2 and Megaman (called Rockman here). Needless to say, I was very tempted.

I was also thrilled to find that the anime My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU has a PlayStation Vita game. Sadly it is in Japanese, a language I can’t read and therefore can’t play the game.

Other than pop culture products and merchandise, my trip to Japan has been filled with great world heritage sites, an incredible trip to Universal Studios (where I got ‘eaten’ by an Attack on Titan titan) and a chance to see the Evangelion anime themed bullet train.

It’s been a dream so far. Stay tuned for a more detailed post on my return. Check out my Twitter, @TheVanguardSite, for pictures of my adventures.
