Reggie Fils-Aime Retires From Nintendo of America

Bowser Takes Over…Literally

The beloved President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, has announced that he’s retiring.

According to Nintendo, the handover will take place on April 15, with Doug Bowser (yes, you read that right, Bowser is his actual name), the head of sales and marketing, will replace Fils-Aime as President.

Fils-Aime took to Twitter, posting a video to fans, thanking them for their passionate love for Nintendo.

In a press release, Fils-Aime said, “Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever…It’s a part that is filled with gratitude — for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humour, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”

The news of Fils-Aime’s retirement was greeted with sadness as Nintendo fans the world over shared tributes and happy memories of their time with Nintendo’s Wii, 3DS, Wii U and Switch platforms, all of which had launches that were overseen by Fils-Aime.

Notably, the Internet were also quick to share humourous quips about Fils-Aime’s replacement, whose surname is the same as that of Nintendo’s iconic Super Mario villain.

Thanks for the memories Reggie! We’ll miss you.
