San Diego Comic Con 2019: Day 2 Recap

With SDCC 2019 Day 1 over, Day 2 proved to be fun with even more announcements.

The second day of the San Diego Comic Con once again saw more trailer reveals, new project announcements and more. Here’s some of the top reveals of the day.

Netflix’s The Witcher Trailer Released

After months of speculation and teasers, Netflix finally revealed the first trailer for the streaming app’s upcoming series, The Witcher. The highly anticipated trailer provided fans with a look at the series’ plot, which appears to follow Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Last Wish novel.

Rick and Morty Season 4 Clip & Episode Details

The long awaited season 4 of Rick and Morty is finally being released later this year. At their SDCC panel, the series’ showrunners, Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, revealed the first clip from season 4, which included a first look at acclaimed director, Taika Waititi’s, character.

Roiland and Harmon also revealed that there will be ten episodes in season 4, with production on season 5 already underway.

Brandon Routh Is Superman Once More; Burt Ward To Join Arrowverse

In a surprise twist, Deadline revealed that Brandon Routh, who plays Ray Palmer, a.k.a The Atom, in The CW’s Arrowverse, will once again don Superman’s suit and cape in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. Routh, who played Superman in the 2006 film, Superman Returns, revealed that he will be playing Kingdom Come Superman alongside Tyler Hoechlin, the current Arrowverse’s Superman.

Furthermore, it was also revealed that Burt Ward, who portrayed Robin in the classic 1960s Batman series, will star in the upcoming crossover event. It has not been revealed what character he’s to play.

Patrick Stewart Releases First Full Star Trek: Picard Trailer

At SDCC 2019 Day 2, Patrick Stewart dropped the first full trailer for his upcoming series, Star Trek: Picard. The trailer The new trailer for the series shows off an emotional action packed adventure as a young woman seeks Picard’s help as she is being hunted by a group of unknown assassins.

 

Star Trek alumni Marina Sirtis, Jonathon Frakes and Brent Spiner, are reprising their roles as Deanna Troi, Will Riker and Data, respectively in the upcoming Picard series.

Westworld Season 3 New Trailer Revealed

At the show’s comic-con panel, a new trailer for season 3 of Westworld was released, showcasing a brand new park, which looks to be based on World War II.

The trailer reveals Thandie Newton’s Maeve battling Nazis while Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores continues on her murderous rampage. Season 3 is set to debut in 2020.

Watchmen Gets a New Trailer

HBO’s highly anticipated series, Watchmen, based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore, revealed a new comic con trailer that delves into the vigilante filled dystopian society and features Regina King’s character, Angela Abar.

New DC Comics Animated Films Announced

SDCC 2019 Day 2

At the SDCC premiere of Batman: Hush, the highly anticipated DC Comics animated film, based on the popular graphic novel of the same name, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation revealed three upcoming animated projects for 2020.

Kicking off 2020 is the animated film adaptation of Superman: Red Son, the critically acclaimed mini-series by comic book legend Mark Millar. Superman: Red Son is an Elseworlds title that illustrates a universe where Superman didn’t land in Kansas, but instead landed in 1950s-era Russia and was raised to fight for the USSR.

Following Red Son, DC Comics also announced two more animated titles for 2020, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War and Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

Phew, what a day! SDCC 2019 Day 2 was definitely filled with exciting news. What could Day 3 bring? A wrap up is due shortly.
