Post Gamescom and D23, the world of pop culture has been fairly quiet. However, here’s what we managed to round up for this week in geekdom.

Mortal Kombat Reboot Casts Sonya Blade & Kano

The Mortal Kombat film reboot has found its Sonya Blade and Kano in Jessica McNamee (The Meg) and Josh Lawson.

The Hollywood Reporter also reported that Deadpool 2 actor, Lewis Tan, “is in final negotiations to play an undisclosed lead character”.

Joker Early Reviews

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Joker has had its early screening, which has received rave reviews from critics. The film has been cited as one of the best films of 2019, with review sites like IGN and Empire giving the film full star ratings.

According to reports, the film also received an eight-minute long standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, making it one of the most well received ‘superhero’ based films.

Terminator: Dark Fate

The upcoming Terminator film, Terminator: Dark Fate, has a brand new trailer leading up to the film’s release this November.

Marvel Comics Turns 80

Marvel Comics celebrated its 80th birthday this week. On August 31, 1939, MARVEL COMICS #1 was released. Now, 80 marvelous years later, the publisher is celebrating the milestone with the release of variant editions of their Marvel Comics #1000 comic book.
