This Week in Geekdom: Disney Reboots, Gears 5 Goes Gold & More

Though the world of pop culture is never without excitement, this past week has been rather slow. However, here are some of the most interesting news of the week. Here’s this week in geekdom.

Films

Addams Family Trailer Revealed

Universal Pictures revealed the first official trailer for The Addams Family. The animated feature film stars Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll with Bette Midler and Allison Janney. In a surprise announcement, rapper Snoop Dogg announced that he is voicing Cousin It.

Andy Serkis Directing Venom 2

The rumours have finally been confirmed. In a tweet, Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes) announced that he will be directing Venom 2. He further noted that Tom Hardy will be assisting in writing the script for the film.

TV STREAMING

Disney To Reboot Popular Family Films As Disney + Programmes

Disney CEO, Bob Iger, announced that beloved family films, Home Alone, Cheaper By The Dozen, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Night at the Museum, will be reimagined and rebooted as television programmes for Disney’s streaming service, Disney +.

Kevin Conroy Will Play Bruce Wayne in Arrowverse

This Week in Geekdom 5

Kevin Conroy, the longtime voice of Bruce Wayne and Batman, will appear in the Arrowverse cross-over event, Crisis on Infinite Earths. The voice actor, known for voicing the millionaire playboy/ caped crusader in Batman: The Animated Series and several Batman animated films, will play an older Bruce Wayne in the cross over.

Video Games

Death Stranding No Longer A PS4 Exclusive

Hideo Kojima’s upcoming video game, Death Stranding, has long been established to release as a PlayStation exclusive, playable on the PS4. However, a recent change on the PlayStation website, noted that the game was no longer listed as an exclusive. Though nothing has been confirmed as yet, this could mean that the game may release on PC and/ or Xbox as well.

Gears 5 Has Gone Gold

Coalition Studios and Xbox have announced that Gears 5, the next iteration of the Gears of War franchise, has gone gold. The game, which is set to release on September 6, will be released both as a standard edition and ultimate edition. A special Xbox One X Gears 5 bundle as well as a limited edition Kait Diaz Xbox One Wireless Controller was also announced this week.
