World’s Biggest Fortnite Streamer Ninja Leaves Twitch For Mixer

One of the world’s most popular streamers, Ninja, has announced that he’ll be leaving Twitch to stream exclusively on Mixer.

In a creative press-conference style video, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins revealed that he would be leaving Twitch, the platform in which he garnered over 14 million followers, to start from scratch on Microsoft’s broadcasting platform, Mixer.

In the video, Blevins said that the move is in part due to his desire to get back in touch with his roots. Rumour has it, though, that the move was also motivated by the fact that Microsoft is releasing a new Halo title soon. Blevins, who began his career as a Halo pro, will no doubt be called upon by Microsoft to promote the game via Mixer.

Whilst many may not fully understand the benefits of the move, here’s my opinion, as a former Twitch streamer who decided to stream exclusively on Mixer, myself. Mixer is still a relatively new platform and is currently carving out a path to become a competitive and viable alternative to Twitch. On boarding major players has been part of Mixer’s strategy from the beginning, having brought a number of popular content creators across from Twitch in its infancy, to also recruiting Snoop Dogg, the rapper, onto the platform as well. Bringing in popular talent onto the platform, means an increase in the number of unique visitors on Mixer, thereby growing the platform. It’s a sound strategy, if done right.

With Blevins’ 14 million followers in tow, this partnership will be a huge win for Microsoft and Mixer, given that ‘Ninja’ is now a household name in the gaming industry.

“As I look at the next step in my career, achieving bigger goals in the gaming industry with Mixer will allow me to have the perfect balance of opportunities and success,” Blevins said in a statement. “My roots as a gamer started with Halo, so working with Microsoft and coming over to Mixer felt like a natural next step. Capturing all the great moments in gaming and sharing in the wins (and losses) with a positive, community-focused environment that we can all be proud of –- that’s why I’m here.”

Blevins will begin his first stream on Mixer from Lollapalooza on Friday. Mixer is currently offering fans a free subscription to Ninja for a limited time.
