The CW Network’s Arrow will be ending after its eighth season.
Green Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen in the series confirmed the news today in a tweet.
“Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life… but you can’t be a vigilante forever,” Amell tweeted. “Arrow will return for a final run of 10 episodes this Fall. There’s so much to say… for now I just want to say thank you.”
The decision isn’t surprising. Over the past few weeks, rumours have been swirling that Oliver Queen will likely meet his end in the upcoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths” cross-over event.
For those who watched this season’s ‘Elseworlds’ event, Oliver made a secret deal to prevent the untimely deaths of The Flash and Supergirl. Perhaps, the time to collect on the deal will take place in next season’s event.
Whether or not Oliver will in fact, die, remains to be seen but after eight seasons, what else could there be left for Green Arrow to do, except leave a lasting legacy behind?
