Rachel Skarsten Oz Comic Con

Batwoman’s Rachel Skarsten Announced For Oz Comic-Con

From the dark depths of Gotham to the gorgeous city of Melbourne, Rachel Skarsten is taking a trip down under!

The Canadian actress, known for her roles as Dinah Lance/ Black Canary in the WB’s Birds of Prey, Tamsin in Lost Girl, Queen Elizabeth I in Reign, and most recently as Kate Kane’s arch nemesis, Alice, in Batwoman, has been announced as Oz Comic-Con’s first international guest.

So why am I so excited? Well, Skarsten was an actress who I first came to know during my formative years, growing up watching Birds of Prey, which was the first all female superhero show that I came to enjoy. Not only was it interesting to be exposed to a group of kick ass super-heroines, it was also really refreshing to see a character that I adored in comic books, come to life on the small screen. Fast forward a decade later and Skarsten once again graced my screen with incredibly thrilling titles, Lost Girl and Reign.

Lost Girl was an interesting sci-fi/fantasy/supernatural series that felt like the perfect mix between Charmed and Supernatural, making it the perfect title to watch. Reign, on the other hand, was a fantastic series that delved into a semi-fictional re-telling of Mary Queen of Scots’ life and the conflict that eventually led to Elizabeth I’s decision to have her executed. Unlike other shows, which generally satisfy the pop culture nerd in me, Reign was a series that managed to capture my more academic and emotional side, appealing to the history nerd in me. Skarsten’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I was absolutely brilliant, showcasing the Virgin Queen in a way that not many others have done in the past.

And now, most recently, Skarsten can be seen playing an even more enticing character, the twisted twin sister of Kate Kane, a.k.a Batwoman. Honestly, after years of watching Skarsten on screen, it’s safe to say that her acting only gets better with each project and I can’t tell you how excited I am to hear that she’s coming to meet her Australian fans in Melbourne at Oz Comic-Con this year.
