The official casting announcement that fans of the Marvel universe have been waiting for has finally come. Josh Brolin, son of famed actor, James Brolin, has officially been cast in Deadpool 2 as Cable, the time-traveling, gun-toting, adult son of X-Men’s Cyclops and Madelyn Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey), and one time leader of the New Mutants (a film is currently in the works for this X-Men spinoff team).
Brolin is well known in the pop culture and comic book movie world, having played DC Comics’ titular character, Jonah Hex, in the Jonah Hex film, Agent K in Men In Black 3, as well as the infamous villain, Thanos, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who will reprise his role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Brolin will star opposite Ryan Reynolds, who will reprise his role as the wise-cracking Deadpool, and Zazie Beetz, who has been cast as the mutant, Domino.
Cable’s involvement in Deadpool was first teased in the first Deadpool film, where the merc with the mouth claimed that Cable would be in the sequel during the film’s post-credits scene. In the Deadpool scene that was revealed ahead of Logan in cinemas, a message written on a phone-booth read, “Nathan Summers cumming soon,” and yes, that spelling is correct and apt for the Deadpool character.
Deadpool 2 is expected to release in 2018.
