This week had no shortage of exciting pop culture announcements, reveals and trailers.

What’s Happening On The Silver Screen
Disney
Disney dropped not one, but two, new trailers for their upcoming live-action films. The first was the Chinese epic, Mulan, a contemporary adaptation of both the 1998 animated film and the “Ballard of Hue Mulan”. Mulan charges into cinemas on March 27th, 2020.
The second Disney trailer was for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The sequel sees Maleficent going up against Queen Ingrith as Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip prepare to wed. Dark demonic forces arise to make this wedding day one the future King and Queen won’t forget. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is due out October 16th.
Star Wars
The Star Wars Show unveiled the first look at a new type of First Order Stormtrooper for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Adorned in crimson red, the Sith Trooper is the first mention of the Sith themselves in the sequel trilogy. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits a galaxy near you on December 19th.
Mortal Kombat
The Mortal Kombat reboot has found its Sub-Zero in Indonesian actor and martial artist, Joe Taslim. The actor is best known for his role in The Raid. Mortal Kombat punches its way into cinemas 21st of March 2021.
What’s New In TV Streaming?
Cuphead
Studio MDHR’s indie darling, Cuphead, is coming to Netflix as an animated series titled, The Cuphead Show. The series will sport the same 1930’s animation style that made the game so beloved. No word on when the series will arrive as yet.
Picard
CBS Access has revealed the first official poster for Stark Trek: Picard, the second Star Trek series to hit the streaming world. Unlike Discovery, Picard will not be on Netflix internationally and instead will appear on Amazon Video. Picard is warping onto CBS Access and Amazon Video late 2019.
Warner Bros. Streaming Service
Warner Brothers have unveiled their answer to Netflix. The company’s streaming service, known as HBO Max, will contain HBO’s slate of powerhouse titles, along with the very best from the library of Warner Media, as well as, original content exclusive to the streaming service.
The Flintstones
An animated adult-oriented reboot of the classic Hanna Barbera animated series, The Flintstones, is in the works at Warner Bros. The series will feature the original characters and has Brightburn and Charlies Angels’ Elizabeth Banks producing .
Video Game Happenings
The Switch Lite
Nintendo has announced a smaller and dock-less version of the Nintendo Switch, dubbed the Switch Lite. Available in three colours, the Switch Lite will hit stores on September 20th with a Pokemon Sword and Shield edition releasing on November 8th.
July Xbox Update Brings Alexa Support
A new Xbox update brings Alexa support to the console allowing voice commands through all Alexa enabled devices among other features.
The Messenger Gets Free DLC
The Messenger, an indie game by Sabotage Studio and published by Devolver Digital, gets free DLC titled “Picnic Panic.” The DLC is available now.
Greedfall Release Date Announced
Focus Home Entertainment and indie developer, Spiders, have revealed the release date for their next open world RPG, Greedfall. It comes to Xbox, PS4 and PC on September 10th.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Mode Reveal
Infinity Ward has revealed that Modern Warfare’s 2v2 multiplayer mode will be revealed on 1 August. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases October 25th.
Gears 5 Technical Test
Coalition Studios have announced two separate technical tests for Gears 5 ahead of its September release. The first test will take place from 20-23 July. The second will take place on 27-30 of July.
