This Week in Geekdom: The Matrix, Catwoman, Fortnite Chapter 2 & More

Neil Patrick Harris enters the matrix, Vampire Bloodlines 2 descends further into the deep dark of night and…riddle me this, riddle me that, who is joining the big bad bat?

For some stories you may have missed and maybe even a few you didn’t, here’s this week in geekdom.

Films

The Matrix 4

The Matrix 4 has added How I Met Your Mother star, Neil Patrick Harris, to its growing cast list this week, but his casting wasn’t the only one to make the headlines.

Following his announcement, it was revealed that Jada Pinkett Smith is in talks to reprise her role as Niobe, the same character she played in both Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions.

Deadline also reported that Iron Fist star, Jessica Henwick, is in talks for a lead role in the fourth installment of the franchise.

The current known cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) and franchise veterans, Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss.

Lana Wachowski is directing the sequel film, which is set to download its way into cinemas sometime in 2022.

The Batman

Taking on the role of Selena Kyle a.k.a Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film, The Batman, is none other than X-men: First Class star Zoe Kravitz.

Kravitz is no stranger to superheroes, sci-fi and the magical worlds. Having already played Catwoman in 2017’s The Lego Batman, she has also voiced Mary Jane Watson in last year’s Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

Joining Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz is Paul Dano, who will take on the role of The Riddler. Dano’s credits include 12 Years a Slave, Okja, Looper and There Will Be Blood.

Matt Reeves will helm the latest film iteration of Gotham’s favourite son and it will hit cinemas in 2021.

Video Games

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2

Earlier this week, the developers at Hardsuit Labs announced that their next game, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 will be delayed.

In a blog post on the Bloodlines 2 official website, Andy Kipling and Brian Mitsoda made the announcement and detailed why they choose to delay the game.

“For the last three and a half years, we’ve worked hard to bring you a worthy successor to Bloodlines 1. To us, that meant not only making good on the ambitions of this remarkable game, but also a duty to ensure we would not repeat its mistakes. Today, we have to tell you that we need some more time to get you the game you’ve been waiting for. Although Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will still launch in 2020, we have decided to value quality over making the Q1 launch window.”

Considering the less than stellar launch condition of the first game, the team at Hardsuit are determined to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Fortnite Chapter 2

Fortnite, the popular battle royale title that you either love to hate or hate to love, ended. That’s right, for more than 24 hours, the beloved game was sucked into a black hole and ceased to exist, forcing kids to go outside and interact with real human beings.

The world was, for a few days, a much better place, as Epic Games took the time to revamp Fortnite for Chapter 2, the rebirth of the title.

Chapter 2 sees a whole new design, with a brand new island to explore with multiple new ways for players to battle it out for the ultimate victory royale.

TV/ Streaming

Lady and the Tramp

Disney tugged at our heartstrings earlier this week with the release of a second trailer for their live-action remake of the 1955 film, Lady and the Tramp.

Featuring the voices of Tessa Thompson as Lady, Justin Theroux as Tramp and Benedict Wong as Bull, the movie launches with Disney+ on November 12th in the U.S and November 19th for Australia.

The Man in the High Castle’s final season

Based on the book series by Phillip K. Dick, the fourth season of the alternate world story comes to an end on November 15th. Amazon Prime Video released a full-length trailer, which can be seen below.

Set in an alternate timeline where the Nazis and Japanese powers won the second world war. Heroes from the American resistance fight to set things right, as the Nazi’s prepare to invade and conquer parallel worlds.
