Week in Geekdom 3

The Fast & Furious franchise spin off film released this week. The film sees Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprise their roles as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw as they team up to take down a genetically enhanced anarchist (Idris Elba).

Dave Bautista & Terry Crews Interested in a Gears of War Film

Week in Geekdom 4

Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) tweeted that he had made every effort to play a role in a Gears of War film. Several fans took to social media to support the former WWE superstar, along with funny man, Terry Crews, who also put his hand up for a role, should Gears of War be developed into a film. Crews already has some experience with video game franchises, having been the face and lead character of Microsoft’s Crackdown 3.

Hyperdrive Trailer

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its high-octane reality car challenge series, Hyperdrive.

The ten-episode first season pits a group of drivers into a series of fast and the furious style challenges to earn the cash and respect. The Fate of the Furious star, Charlize Theron, is the executive producer on the project. The series drifts its way onto Netflix later this month.

Film Legends Come Together For The Irishman

The full trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new film, The Irishman, has dropped. This newest mobster flick by the acclaimed director tells the story of Jimmy Hoffa and the gangsters who allegedly took his life. Using some impressive de-aging tech, Scorsese brings back legendary gangster film actors Robert De Niro, Al, Pacino and Joe Pesci to the big screen and Netflix later this year.

Gaming & Esports

The Outer Worlds Announced For The Switch

The Nintendo switch is getting a double dose of Obsidian Entertainment. It was announced earlier this week that the upcoming space RPG, The Outer Worlds, is coming to the Switch, though no release date has been set. Perhaps some time in the not too distant future…

However, while Switch fans are waiting on that unknown release date to arrive, Obsidian’s old-school style RPG, Pillars of Eternity, rides into the Nintendo eShop next Thursday.

Borderlands 3 Character Trailers

Borderlands 3 came in guns blazing this week, unloading not one, but two, character trailers this week. The first was for all around Irish badass, Zane. His trailer showed off a couple of his skills including a shield wall and a holographic doppelganger.

The second trailer introduces the bubble-gum chewing mechanic, known as Moze, and her robot companion. The trailer also showed her piloting a mechanical psycho killing machine.

Borderlands 3 shoots its way onto Xbox, PS4 and PC on Friday the 13th of September.

FaZe Clan Recruits Its First Female Player

Soleil ‘Ewok’ Wheeler, last week, became FaZe Clan’s first female member. The 13-year-old Fortnite player joined the elite esports team after her appearance in the World Cup’s Pro-Am Duos. In addition, Soleil is also deaf, giving her statement in sign language, excitedly declaring, “I am so very excited to be in FaZe. The quality of people on the team, everybody is really wonderful, so FaZe up,” she said.

Ninja Signs With Mixer Exclusively

Ninja Mixer

One of the world’s most popular streamers, Ninja, has announced that he’ll be leaving Twitch to stream exclusively on Mixer.

In a creative press-conference style video, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins revealed that he would be leaving Twitch, the platform in which he garnered over 14 million followers, to start from scratch on Microsoft’s broadcasting platform, Mixer. The move has already seen a significant positive boost not only on Ninja’s streams but also to Mixer as a platform as well.
